SEPTEMBER 2020 CALENDAR OF EVENTS & OPPORTUNITIES

Labyrinth Walks with Pastor Vicki:

September is such a beautiful time of year for a family LABYRINTH WALK! Oh, wait…you’re not exactly sure what a LABYRINTH is???  Well, simply put, a labyrinth is a walking prayer path and it just so happens that Hopewell has a labyrinth of its own!  Our labyrinth is located in the Hopewell Cemetery, just across the street from the church.  If you’re looking for a simple, uncomplicated, brief family activity, why not join us?  Pastor Vicki will lead this walk that is appropriate for elementary aged children and their parents.

WHEN: Monday September 21 (RAIN DATE:  Monday September 28)

WHERE: Hopewell Labyrinth

TIME: 6:15 PM (the sun is setting early these days…)

WHAT TO DO:

     * Wear a mask

     * Contact Pastor Vicki if you have questions (vicki@hopewellumc.org)

DRIVE THROUGH SUPPLY PICK-UP: 9/2/20 & 9/30/20 12:00-1:00 PM

On these days, Children’s Ministries will offer curriculum packets, craft supplies, and other goods to pick-up by driving through our Hopewell parking lot all in one convenient bundle.Simply pull up to the sidewalk and one of our leaders will hand you everything you need to work on lessons at your own pace, from home, hopefully learning more about God’s word. This option allows kids to have lessons they can read on their own or with family and play a corresponding game or make craft, much like we would do in Sunday school all together. Registration or sign-up NOT required. This event will happen rain or shine.

KID WORSHIP: Every Sunday in September @ 9:30 AM

This is a weekly, in-person gathering, coinciding with Hopewell’s outdoor worship at 9:30 AM. Starting September 6th, families can now register their children for worship as well and we will gather on the side lawn outside the chapel. This option is for students Kindergarten- 5th Grade and each child must wear a mask. We also recommend you bring a water bottle! Kid-Worship will be canceled for any inclement weather – if outdoor service is canceled, so is Kid-Worship. All participating students must register for this event: hopewellumc.org/calendar

ZOOM SUNDAY SCHOOL: Every Sunday in September @ 10:00 AM

In September, we will offer online Zoom calls at 10:00 AM for any children interested in learning online. Zoom call details will be posted each week right here, on the blog. There will be one call that will span various age groups. No need to sign-up, just simply log on and join us at 10:00 AM. Sunday School teachers will engage students in short lessons, conversations, games, and prayer.

MOBILE RECESS: Every TUESDAY in October from 12:00 – 2:30 PM

This is an opportunity for a children’s ministry staff member or Sunday School teacher to come to your house for a 15 – 20 minute visit or “recess”. Register with Libby for a date and time preference: libby@hopewellumc.org. A leader will come to your house, stay outside, and play a game with your child or children. April 22, 2020

Dear DASD Staff and Families,

I’m happy to share some great news!

The Pennsylvania Department of Education has recently approved DASD to provide free breakfast and lunch to all children in the area, ages 0-18, regardless of if they qualify for the free and reduced meal plan or attend DASD.

In order to streamline the process and best accommodate our families, beginning next week (the week of April 26), we will provide bags of food on Tuesdays and Fridays only. Tuesday’s bags will contain a three-day supply of food per child, and Friday’s bags will include a four-day supply of food per child.

The first pick up will be Tuesday, April 28.

Food bags can be picked up at Downingtown West, between 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

For families currently picking up food daily, the last daily pick up will be on Friday, April 24, and will include a four-day supply of food. The next pick up will be Tuesday, April 28, and the Tuesday/Friday schedule will begin. There will not be a pick up on Monday, April 27.

Please share this information with any local families with children who may be in need. Thank you and have a great week!

Sincerely,

David Matyas, Business Director
